Aurora & Kent, 2017, oil on canvas, 20″ x 16″, framed
The story behind the painting:
Aurora and Kent. We are the Cat People, in different shapes and disguises we lived next to you throughout your whole history. We hunted you on the trees, we chased you through savannas, we killed you on the mountaintops of Nepal and in the jungles of Amazon. Your children know who is The King of the Kingdom before they can even speak, you are scared of the dark even before you meet our green eyes. Sometimes we let you be, but my children always keep an eye on you. You call them “pets”, they don’t mind, but cats know better who is who. My good friend Kent and his family always ask me to give you another chance. My people are getting tired of giving you another chance to screw up. Unless you change, there will be none of you no more, we make you disappear. Remember: We are Always Watching…
The Monk. I have many faces and many names. Sometimes you called me by my true name: The Monk. I walked your people through the Desert, I taught your children under the Bodhi tree, I screamed at you from the mountaintops. But you stopped listening, so today I am changing. One more change for me, one last chance for you, my dear children!
